MISSION
Established during COVID-19 pandemic, Seattle Independent Artist Sustainability Effort (SIASE) is a horizontal coalition formed by and for artists to enhance self-determination and secure both short and long term sustainability of our communities through documentation, coordination, and direct advocacy.

VALUES
We embrace the values statement established through collective process by the broader Seattle COVID-19 Mutual Aid Solidarity Network which holds: “We aim to cultivate a politics of international solidarity and local mutual aid within a creatively resilient, multi-generational horizon of decolonial, anti-capitalist, feminist, queer, disability, and sex worker liberation. We are building community power, decentralized control & autonomy.”

We also stand in solidarity with the Crisis Recovery Platform advanced by Got Green.

KEY ACTIVITIES

  1. SIASE will be a platform where artists and cultural workers can engage in self-advocacy, leadership development, and organizing within our own communities.
  2. SIASE will be collecting and providing documentation of critical impacts to the artistic community in order to better advocate for our needs and bolster collective action.
  3. SIASE will be a space that facilitates the navigation of resources that are available to the artistic community and engage in mutual aid in our own communities as well as allied communities.

ABOUT US
Established during the COVID-19 pandemic, Seattle Independent Artist Sustainability Effort (SIASE) is a horizontal coalition formed for and by artists to advance self-determination in our communities during these trying times.

We recognize the immediate and devastating impact of COVID-19 on artists as indicative of historic, widespread systemic failure under capitalism to honor the role and intrinsic value of art in the lives of individuals and communities- and equitably compensate for that labor.

We recognize the disparate experience of impact to artists and disparate access to information and relief resources in our communities as the result of longstanding inequities in broader systems of education, technology/creative industries, and philanthropy/non-profit industrial complex.

We are coming together as artists, cultural workers, and community organizers to fill gaps in service, access, and resources for the most vulnerable among us, and through these efforts seek to facilitate holistic analysis and systemic change in our city towards a more equitable and community-rooted creative ecosystem that provides for all.
